About Me

A photo of Emma Coath
Hi, I’m Emma Coath (she/her), a UI/UX designer based in Philadelphia, PA.

I create thoughtful digital experiences by blending user research, accessibility, and storytelling into purposeful product and website designs.

My work spans digital library services, healthcare platforms, AI-generated tools/chatbots, content audits, accessibility audits, and deep-dive UX research.

Grounded in human-centered design, I lead with empathy and inclusivity—using user feedback to craft websites and tools that genuinely support the people who use them.

I currently work at Clarivate, a global leader in transformative intelligence, where I focus on academic library platforms like Web of Science and Journal Citation Reports.

Work Process

I thrive in Figma—designing interfaces, leading collaborative workshops, and sharing wireframe proposals to gather feedback and refine ideas with my team.

Every project begins with UX research and a focus on the product’s narrative, ensuring alignment with design systems and adherence to ADA standards through WCAG compliance.

I bring experience working on complex layouts and multi-tiered user access, always aiming to create intuitive, human-centered designs that connect digital interactions with real-world needs.

In cross-functional environments, I partner with developers, product owners, and accessibility advocates to enhance and maintain Figma/M3 design systems, while proactively addressing accessibility issues to meet both user expectations and business goals.

Remote and hybrid work has shaped my process—equipping me to pitch prototypes virtually, collaborate across time zones, and gather impactful user insights from a distance.

Background

I love Philly photo
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic and Interactive Design (GAID) from Temple University and Tyler School of Art and Architecture.

Active in the Philly UX community as a UI/UX design mentor
with PhillyCHI and AIGAPhiladelphia, I’m passionate about giving back and helping the next generation of designers grow with confidence and curiosity.

Mentorship has become a meaningful part of my practice—offering a space to share experiences, answer questions, and foster creative growth through real-world insight.

I also stay informed on best practices and evolving standards by engaging with trusted industry sources like Nielsen Norman Group, attending Deque's accessibility conferences, and watching Figma tutorials.

These resources sharpen my skills in usability and inclusive design, while fueling my drive to create digital experiences that are thoughtful, equitable, and human-centered. Whether I’m mentoring, collaborating on a project, or diving into the latest research, I’m always looking for ways to connect, learn, and push the field forward.
